Innovative Cheshire and Merseyside menopause support collaboration to feature at global gynaecology event
Friday, 4 April 2025

An abstract detailing innovative approaches to reduce menopause waiting lists in Cheshire and Merseyside has been accepted for presentation at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) World Congress 2025.
The event, which will take place at the ExCel London in June, highlights collaborative efforts of the Cheshire and Merseyside Acute and Specialist Trust Provider Collaborative (CMAST), Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, Central Liverpool Primary Care Network and South Sefton Primary Care Network to provide additional menopause clinics to people in Cheshire and Merseyside.
The accepted abstract showcases the outcomes of a Central Liverpool menopause pilot designed to provide monthly community-based menopause clinics delivered by British Menopause Society-trained GPs with Liverpool Women’s consultant support.
There will be an e-poster submitted for showcasing at the three-day event, which with feature the abstract content but also further work which has taken place in South Sefton since the abstract was submitted.
These initiatives are a testament to the importance of collaboration, demonstrating how multiple organisations can work together to enhance patient care and improve waiting times.
The project was designed to offer the best possible patient experience to the local population and support women to access menopause support.
Paula Briggs, consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health at Liverpool Women’s Hospital and former Chair of the British Menopause Society, said:
“This is a great opportunity for us to demonstrate the power of collaborative working across Cheshire and Merseyside organisations and that by working together we can achieve significant waiting list reduction. It also highlights the importance of seeing patients in appropriate, closer to home community settings too. We are grateful to all our partner organisations who have been paramount in driving this work for the benefit of our patients who are at the heart of everything we do.”
