NHS Cheshire and Merseyside February 2024 Blog

You will no doubt have noted concern around the recent measles outbreak - initially centred on the West Midlands - but now spreading to other regions.
Here, we are working with partners to reinforce the importance of vaccination and we would urge parents and carers to check their children’s vaccination records to ensure they are protected.
On a more positive note, we welcome the news this week that millions more dental appointments are to be offered under an NHS Dental Recovery Plan over the next year - to ensure easier and faster access to NHS dental care.
In Cheshire and Merseyside we already have approved funding to provide free toothbrushes for children, to provide additional appointments for new patients and to support and develop the local dental workforce.
I look forward to understanding the detail about how the recent national commitment will complement our local dental recovery plan and help drive a major focus on prevention and better oral health in young children.
Last, but certainly not least, as NHS Cheshire and Merseyside’s executive anti-racism sponsor I would like to highlight our work in this area in what is national Race Equality Week.
In addition to our organisation’s anti-racism pledge we are working positively towards achieving the first level of achievement on the North West BAME Assembly Anti-Racism Framework. I look forward to updating further on this as it progresses.
