GP services still open for business

During the Coronavirus pandemic GP services have been working differently to ensure that they continue to care for their patients while ensuring that any risk of transmission of Coronavirus is reduced. Many people who contact their GP are being assessed by telephone, via video call or on line and for many people this is all they need.  Anyone who needs to see a GP or nurse face to face after an assessment will do so, even during the current lockdown period.

GP practices are currently working hard to deliver seasonal flu vaccinations and GP’s will also play a crucial role in delivering any new vaccine to protect against Coronavirus.

Dr Paula Cowan, NHS Wirral CCG Chair and Wirral GP comments The news that a new vaccine for Coronavirus may be available soon is very positive and we are working with our local GP’s and other partners to plan for this.  I do want to assure residents that this will not impact on GP’s ability to deliver safe and effective care to their patients.’

Plans will be finalised when there is certainty on when and what vaccines will be approved for use.  In the meantime, people are encouraged to have their flu vaccination as soon as possible in preparation for this winter.
